Program Learning Outcomes: 

Describe the purposes of tissue adhesives when used with VAD's.
Identify new standards and major changes in existing standards. 
Identify strategies to manage current drug shortages

Reminder: This conference is being held on  Friday, April 20th not Saturday as in previous
years. Please plan extra time for your travel to the conference.

    The Art and Science Behind the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice

    Pamela Jacobs, MHA, BSN, RN, CRNI, OCN INS President, 2017-2018

    Pamela has been a nurse with the same organization for more than 35 years. She has experience in critical care and was instrumental in forming the first infusion team in her hospital. She became an INS member in 1990, a CRNI® in 1991, and was named CRNI® of the Year in 2006. A former member of the INCC Board of Directors, she also served as chair of that board. Pamela has been a reviewer of the Infusion Nursing Standards of Practice (2011) and the Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice (2016), and has presented poster and podium presentations for INS. She is currently director, clinical education for the Norton Cancer Institute, Norton Healthcare.

    Tissue Adhesive: A New Tool for your Vascular Access Toolbox

    Lois Davis, MSN, RN, VA-BC

    Lois Davis is the Executive Director for the Vascular Access Certification Corporation (VACC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the validation, through certification, of a specialized body of knowledge for all professionals working in the field of vascular access. Lois’ background includes over 30 years as a registered nurse with more than 20 years involved in vascular access as a clinician, educator, and manager. She is the past Editor in Chief for the Journal of the Association for Vascular Access and serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals. Lois serves as Chair of the Publications Committee for the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. Lois is a recognized speaker and is involved in various local and national professional organizations.

    Addressing the Dressing: Improving Vascular Access Dressing Disruption

    Michelle Devries BS, MPH, CIC Senior Infection Control Officer, Methodist Hospitals, Gary Indiana

    Chellie DeVries has been involved in infection prevention and hospital epidemiology for more than 20 years. She is passionate about raising awareness around peripheral vascular access devices and devotes her time to education on this topic . She is a member of Project Infuse, AVA’s PIV task force and an advisor to AVA’s patient advocacy group. She was a reviewer for the 2016 INS Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice, and authored the Infection Prevention chapter for the next edition of their Infusion Nursing: an Evidence Based Approach text book. She is a Director at Large with the Vascular Access Certification Board (VACC) and an Adjunct Research Fellow with AVATAR — the Alliance for Vascular Access Teaching and Research. Her team’s work on improving care and outcomes around peripheral IVs has won the first place oral abstract award for the past two years at the national AVA conference.

    The Lowdown on Drug Shortages

    Staley Lawes PharmD, BCPS, FISMP

    Staley Lawes is a Medication Safety Officer with Comprehensive Pharmacy Services at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and completed a fellowship with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices. Previously, she worked as a clinical pharmacist at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA and then at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ, where she designed and implemented a pharmacy position in the emergency department.

    Kathy Kokotis MBA, BS, RN Director Global Clinical Development Bard Access Systems

    Kathy has been Public Speaking at National Seminars on intravenous therapy and cost containment since 1993. She had Published (6) journal articles on cost containment in the intravenous therapy industry in the Journal of Infusion Nursing, Journal of Vascular Access Devices and Nursing 1998. Kathy has Conducted Analysis of vascular access process for operational cost reduction in the healthcare system and Served on the national board of Directors for the Association of Vascular Access (AVA) for a two year term as the Treasurer and two year term as Director at large. Her Specialties include : Implementation of patient thru-put programs of Vascular Access Services since 1993 related to early vascular access assessment, service site, labor, and operational cost reduction.
